A Letter from Peking is a simple story, some may find it slow and deliberate (oh, but the poetry of the descriptions!); however, a discerning reader will glean so much from what is unsaid and, perhaps, as I did, feel the profundity of Elizabeth MacLeod’s love for her husband/5(97).   Letter from Peking – My favorite book! I don’t remember when I got “Letter from Peking” from Azamgarh and when was the first time I read the book. It’s not my book but my Papa’s and looking at the pages of the book that have turned yellow with time, it seems it should be easily 30 years old.

Buck. 'Letter From Peking' is a wonderful story, who I think is one of the best books I've ever read. The author has done a very well job by putting some of Elizabeth's memories back and forth, from China to.

Over time, both the silences and complications grow more painful: Gerald has taken up a new love and teenager Rennie struggles with his mixed-race heritage in America. Rich with Buck's characteristic emotional wisdom, Letter from Peking focuses on the ordeal of a family split apart by race and history.

A minor production in the distinguished list of Mrs. Buck's writings, but one that has certain qualities of charm, and importance in the successful probing of the interrace conflict.

She tells the story, largely by indirection, of an American wife of a teacher, whose mother was Chinese, his father American —but almost more Chinese than the Chinese in his scholarly interests and identification. All about Letter from Peking by Pearl S.
